Adjudication

“Adjudication” is the process of deciding whether or not students are eligible for their Intent to Register (ITR) choices. Adjudication occurs in May-June and again, during the summer months, if summer courses are taken.

For a more detailed outline of the adjudication process please see the Adjudication Process page.

An adjudication summary for students entering Years 2, 3 and 4 in September, 2023 will be posted (once available) at Admission and Progression.

FAQs

Can I apply for admission to the Honours Specialization in Neuroscience after completing two years of another program?

Yes, but admission to the Honours Specialization in Neuroscience is competitive and limited to a maximum of 30 students in each of Years 2 and 3. The students admitted to Year 2 of the Honours Specialization in Neuroscience are guaranteed their spots in Year 3 as long as they satisfy the minimum Progression Requirements. A spot might not be available in Year 3 for additional students.

See Admission & Progression to Year 2 for more details and contact the Academic Counselling Office in NCB 280 with any questions.

Note: Neuroscience 2000 must be taken before 3000F/G and Neuroscience 3000F/G must be taken before 4000E. The Neuroscience courses will not be offered in the summer. The only students who will be able to register in Neuroscience 3000F/G will be students registered in the Honours Specialization in Neuroscience.

Can I switch from Year 2 of an Honours Specialization in Neuroscience into Year 3 of the BMSc Program?

You can apply for Admission to the BMSc Program after Year 2 Neuroscience as a student in the "competitive pool". You must satisfy the conditions stated for admission from the competitive pool.

If I'm accepted into Year 2 Neuroscience  can I change my registration back to Medical Sciences

Yes, as long as you (i) were registered in Medical Sciences 1, and (ii) satisfied the requirements to progress to Medical Sciences 2, you can submit a Change of Status request during the summer between Years 1 and 2 to the Academic Counselling Office in NCB 280 to be re-registered in Medical Sciences. See "How do I change my program/module(s) for the upcoming Fall/Winter" below.

Will a waiting list be maintained for Year 2 of the Honours Specialization in Neuroscience?

Yes.

If 30 students are admitted to Year 2 Neuroscience and some of these students informs the BMSUE Office that they do not wish to register in Year 2 Neuroscience, then students will be contacted to see if they would like the spots.

Students will be contacted (via uwo email) if a space becomes available in Year 2 Neuroscience in the order of descending average on the 4.0 first-year prerequisite courses.

What if I don’t meet the requirements to progress to Year 3 or 4?

Only students admitted to Year 3 of the Honors Specialization in Neuroscience may progress to Year 4 of the Honours Specialization in Neuroscience. Students not eligible for Year 3 or 4 Neuroscience must complete a different module(s).

Possible alternatives to the Honours Specialization in Neuroscience include an Honours Specialization in Psychology (BA or BSc), Double Majors (e.g. Major in Medical Sciences + Major in Psychology), etc.

Keep in mind that Double Majors can lead to an honours degree, provided your marks are sufficiently high.

After Adjudication

Find your final marks and Grade Report (adjudication decisions)

Final marks and Grades Report are posted in Student Center after the adjudication decisions have been made and processed.

  • Go to Student Center > Academics > My Academics > View My Grades > Grade Report
  • Grade Reports should be posted by mid-June

The Grade Report includes final marks and:

  • adjudication decisions, informing students if they are eligible for their First or Second Choices that they submitted during the Intent to Register period
  • other comments, if appropriate, about courses that need to be completed, certain graduation requirements, etc.

BE PATIENT!

  • DO NOT email the BMSUE Office, the Academic Counselling Office and/or the Office of the Registrar to find out why your adjudication form has yet to be processed. There are thousands of adjudication forms that need to be processed and your form is one of many. No one can look specifically for your form to process it before someone else's form!

How do I check what I submitted for my Intent to Register?

Go to Student Center from mid-April onward to see what you submitted for your Intent to Register choices.

Term-activation and your program/plan for the upcoming Fall/Winter

After the Office of the Registrar posts the Grade Reports in Student Center, they begin to "term-activate" students for the upcoming Fall/Winter session.

Term activation is the process of creating a "line of registration" which includes:

  • the level (year),
  • the status (either full- or part-time status), and
  • the program/plan (e.g. "Bachelor of Science degree" and "Honours Specialization in Neuroscience" for the upcoming Fall/Winter

Once you have been term-activated, you can view your program/plan by going to Student Center > My Academics > My Program (it is displayed over a few lines - degree on one line, module on second line, additional module on third line)

The BMSUE Office will check all students who have been admitted to Medical Sciences 2, Years 2-4 of the Neuroscience program and Years 3-4 of the BMSc Program to make sure that all students are term-active prior to the first day of registration. Students going into Year 4 will be checked first, followed by students going into Year 3, etc.

How do I change my program/module(s) for the upcoming Fall/Winter?

After adjudication, you can submit a Change of Status request to the Academic Counselling Office in NCB 280 to revise your program/plan for the upcoming year.

See Degree/Program Changes for more information, including applicable deadlines, to ensure that your request is reviewed/processed prior to course registration.

I'm not returning in September
