Legacy in Microbiology Symposium

The Department of Microbiology and Immunology will be holds a daylong symposium to honour Dr. R.G.E. Murray. Dr. Murray passed away in February this year at the age of 102 years. He was associated with Western for over 75 years and was a long-time faculty member and Head of Department from 1949-1974. Dr. Murray was a distinguished Canadian microbiologist, founding President of the Canadian Society of Microbiologists (CSM) and also served as President of the American Society for Microbiology (ASM). In 1999, the Department established an annual Lectureship in his name. The R. G. E. Murray Legacy in Microbiology Symposium will focus on the scientific progress, recent advances, and future prospects of microbiology. The speakers are Canadian leaders in the field of microbiology including two new investigators who are former graduates of our department.
