Prospective Scholars

At Western there are two types of relationships that a Faculty Supervisor and a Postdoctoral Scholar may enter into Postdoctoral Fellow (PDF) or Postdoctoral Associate (PDA). For more information on the difference between these types of postdoc please visit the SGPS website.

Appointment Process

There are three critical steps that must be taken in order to register your postdoctoral appointment at Western:
  1. Reach an agreement in principle with a faculty researcher
  2. Complete the online appointment process
  3. Sign and submit your contract

Reappointment

In order to renew your Postdoctoral Scholar appointment, you will need to complete the above appointment process. Please note, however, that the maximum period that an individual can be appointed as a Postdoctoral Scholar at Western is five years.

Funding

Funding must be in place before the appointment commences. Postdoctoral scholars can secure funding from external granting agencies or fellowship programs or may be offered funding from their faculty mentors’ grant or research resources. The rates of compensation and applicable policies vary depending upon the funding agency.
