IIRF 2025 Keynote Speaker

The keynote speaker for this year will be Dr. Philip Sherman.
Dr. Sherman is a Professor Emeritus in the Department of Pediatrics at the University of Toronto and a Senior Scientist-Emeritus in the Cell Biology Program at The Hospital for Sick Children.
His research examines how probiotics, prebiotics, human milk oligosaccharides, vitamins, and dietary fats influence gastrointestinal physiology, gut microbiome composition, and intestinal epithelial injury and repair. His work has also explored the mechanisms that underlie the development and progression of Inflammatory Bowel Diseases (Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis), advancing from mechanistic studies in model systems to clinical trials in children and adolescents.
Dr. Sherman previously held a Tier 1 Canada Research Chair in Gastrointestinal Disease and served as Scientific Director of CIHR’s Institute of Nutrition, Metabolism and Diabetes. With his pioneering research and leadership in pediatric gastroenterology, we look forward to hosting Dr. Sherman and hearing more about his influential work in the fields of nutrition, microbiology, and intestinal health.
