2024-2025 Thomas Award Recipient
The John A. Thomas Award honors the life and achievements of Dr. John A. Thomas, a Ph.D. student in the Department of Microbiology & Immunology at the University of Western Ontario who tragically passed away in 1993.
John, who had a strong background in clinical practice and a deep passion for research, was posthumously awarded his Ph.D. in 1994. Known for his academic excellence, dedication to teaching, and vibrant personality, he was recognized for his exceptional contributions to both his department and the field of microbiology.
Despite his short time in the program, John earned several accolades, including the Canadian Society of Microbiologists Graduate Student Award.
This award is granted to a Ph.D. student during the last stages of the program in the areas of Bacteriology, Virology, Immunology, and Genetics. Applicants should have completed all course requirements and should have passed the Comprehensive Exam or the Ph.D. Candidacy exam.
