TRAINING SITE DESCRIPTION
Kincardine is a town of approximately 12,000 people located on the shores of Lake Huron. It is renowned for its beautiful beaches and the Bruce Power nuclear energy generating station, which currently produces approximately 30% of Ontario’s power.
The Hawthorne Community Clinic, located at 1201 Queen St. Kincardine, will be our residents’ home base. It features a Family Health Organization made up of the Kincardine Physicians Group, and a Family Health Team made up of Allied Health Professionals including nurse practitioners, advanced practice nurses, dieticians, occupational therapists, and a kinesiologist.
South Bruce Grey Health Centre Kincardine, found across the parking lot from the clinic, will be where most of the residents’ hospital-based work will take place. This includes the emergency department, inpatient unit, and specialist clinics. Kincardine hospital sees approximately 15,000 emergency department visits per year and features a 25-bed inpatient unit. There are several visiting specialists from a variety of fields that hold clinics in Kincardine on a regular basis.
South Bruce Grey Health Centre is a corporation consisting of Kincardine and 3 other hospitals, including Walkerton, Durham, and Chesley. Unique learning opportunities are available at our sister sites upon request.

TYPICAL 8 WEEK CYCLE FOR A RESIDENT
Kincardine features a longitudinal curriculum modelled around the 8-week work cycle of our preceptors.
