Listowel Medical Clinic

SITE DIRECTOR BIO

Dr. Derek Gateman has been a Family Physician in Listowel since 2016.  He graduated in 2013 from Schulich School of Medicine and Dentistry then completed residency at McMaster’s Grand Erie Six Nations site.  He subsequently worked as a hospitalist before settling in Listowel when his wife completed her training in GP-Anesthesia.  He has clinical interests in penicillin allergy testing, inpatient medicine, hepatitis C treatment, and elder care.

Dr. Gateman has a keen interest in medical education.  He has served as education lead since 2019, acting as coordinator and preceptor to learners while trying to deliver on the motto “the best learning experience during your time with us”.

Outside of work, he and his wife balance a busy family schedule with two young children.  He plays soccer recreationally, cheers passionately for the Montreal Canadiens, and enjoys a good joke.
