Procedural Log

Purpose

Starting July 1, 2009, all incoming residents must complete their procedural log. The purpose of this log is to ensure that each resident has had exposure to common primary care procedures and will give our program information to improve our teaching around procedural skills. For us to get an idea of our training program's ability to offer exposure of procedures to our residents, we encourage you to log as accurately as possible the # of times you have observed, assisted or performed each of the procedures.

Expectations

  • Residents are responsible to ensure that they have all procedures documented at least once
  • For those procedures where you have not had a chance to perform during residency, make sure that you have learned the procedure using other resources available (reading/video).
  • A resident will record all procedures (including obstetrical procedures) as field notes using MyFM
    • To enter a procedure in MyFM: within the left navigation panel, click +Procedure or +Field Note and select Procedure
    • To track progress of procedures in MyFM: within the left navigation panel, click Resident Assessment > Procedural Skills
