The International Conference in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery was held in Vancouver June 7 - 11, 2023. The Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry had members from the dental school and oral and maxillofacial surgery team attend and present at this biennial conference which had been on a hiatus because of COVID-19.

Natasha Holder (OMFS PGY5) presented a poster on Glandular Odontogenic Cyst: Molecular Analysis using Targeted Next-Generation Sequencing for her research team of Michael Shimizu, M. Cecchini, C. Howlett, and Christina McCord.

Damir Rosic (OMFS PGY6) presented a poster on Characterizing Human Papillomavirus Associated Oral Epithelial Dysplasia for his research team of Linda Jackson-Boeter, Mark Darling, Henry Lapointe, Zia Khan, and Christina McCord.

Ethan McQueen (MSc student in Clinical Anatomy) presented an oral abstract on the Effects of Incremental Maxillomandibular Advancement on Airway Resistance: A Cadaveric Simulation Study for his research team of Michael Shimizu, Ali Tassi, and Tim Wilson.

 

 

Kevin Zhou (DDS 2024) presented an abstract on the Development and Validation of a Novel Craniofacial Statistical Shape Model for the Virtual Reconstruction of Bilateral Maxillary Defects for his research team of Moulik Patel, Michael Shimizu, E. Wang, E. Prisman, and Trevor Thang.

Dr. Michael Shimizu gave a lecture on TMJ Complications Post Orthognathic Surgery and was a moderator for the Symposium on Complications of Orthognathic Surgery.

The conference was organized by the International Association of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons and the Canadian Association of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons and was well attended from surgeons around the globe.
