  • Network for Canadian Oral Health Research receives funding from Canadian Government to advance oral health research

    News Release from Canadian Institutes of Health Research. A national research network (NCOHR) will receive additional funding from the Government of Canada to support its work to improve the oral health of Canadians through strong collaboration, education, and training. The Honourable Ginette Petitpas Taylor, Minister of Health, today announced funding of $850,000 for the Network for Canadian Oral Health Research through the Canadian Institutes of Health Research.   • David Feere toured historic Beale Street in Memphis while attending the Hinman Student Research Symposium

    David Feere, DDS 2018, attended the Hinman Student Research Symposium in Memphis in October to present his poster entitled: “The Effect of Matrix Stiffness on Fibroblast Gene Expression.” Feere (supervised by Dr. Andrew Leask in Dentistry's Summer Research Program), competed for this travel award at Schulich Dentistry's 2016 Annual Research Day. Feere remarked, “Research presentations by students broadened my understanding of what research may allow dentists to do clinically, in the future, to achieve better outcomes for patients”. 

  • Andrei Zaharia (DDS 2018), attends Colgate Dental Students' Conference on Research

    Andrei Zaharia travelled to Maryland to present his research at the American Dental Association (ADA) Foundation’s 53nd Annual Colgate Dental Students’ Conference in October 2017. Andrei competed for this travel award at Schulich Dentistry's 2016 Annual Research Day with his poster “Novel bioactive, fast-setting and injectable bone cement for bone augmentation”, supervised by Drs. Amin Rizkalla and Jeff Dixon, in Dentistry's Summer Research Program.

  • Alumnus makes donation to mark 40 years of dental practice

    Dr. John Pate, DDS’76, recently donated a gift of $40,000 to Schulich Dentistry, celebrating 40 years of dental practice in Guelph. The donation was the culmination of a 40 Acts of Kindness initiative marking the special anniversary.

    Brett Hawley, Dentistry Class of 2017, recently took on a rather unexpected role in his final months as a dental student – that of officiant at a friend’s wedding. The groom was alumnus Dr. Jonathan Sanderson, DDS’16, who had a big influence on Hawley during his time at Schulich Dentistry.

  • Dr. Amin Rizkalla awarded a Collaborative Research Seed Grant (CRSG)

    Congratulations to Dr. Amin Rizkalla (Oral Biology, Schulich Dentistry) for his project entitled: ‘Optimization of 3D-Printed Porous Titanium Constructs for Craniofacial Reconstuction’. Co-Investigators include Dr. Henry Lapointe (Schulich Dentistry) and Dr. Yara Hosein (Engineering). Collaborative Research Seed Grants (CRSG) provide recipients with seed funding for the formation and development of new interdisciplinary collaborative research teams. The intent is to promote new collaborations that build on different scientific and scholarly backgrounds, to facilitate breakthroughs in solving research questions in a collaborative manner, and to position the School's researchers to successfully respond to targeted requests for proposals from Tri-Council or other funding agencies. 

  • David Zuanazzi presented with the 2016-2017 CADR-NCOHR Student Research Award

    David Zuanazzi, DDS, MSc (PhD Student) and Karla Crosara, DDS (MSc Student) from Schulich Dentistry presented posters at the 95th General Session & Exhibition of the IADR / 41st Annual Meeting of the CADR in San Francisco in March. Both students are supervised by Dr. Walter Siqueira (Schulich Dentistry). At this annual meeting, Zuanazzi was presented with the 2016-2017 CADR-NCOHR Student Research Award for achieving second place in the Canadian Senior Clinical Science category for his work "Detection of Zika virus in saliva by mass spectrometry-based proteomic/peptidomic”.
