Clinic Updates - March 2023

Tooth outline with text: National Dental Hygienists Week - April 4-10 - Oral Health for Total Health

It has been a busy spring in Dentistry’s clinics!

Multiple community service-learning sites have been established to serve marginalized populations, with a plan for third-year student screeners to provide the acute phase of dental care to get patients out of pain. We are pleased to share that new Ukrainian refugee patients are also being seen under the community service-learning portfolio, and additional service-learning electives are being planned for fourth-year students.

Dr. Sabharwal is leading the reactivated Perio Surgery program and the first two surgeries have been completed. The potential to participate in the Ontario Senior Dental Care Program through the Middlesex London Health Unit (MLHU) is being explored. Barrier-free rooms are completed and plans for their use are being developed. The CBCT scanner has been installed and is undergoing Ministry of Health and RCDSO approval.

Year-1 students had their first clinical session this month, and their enthusiastic energy was exciting for everyone!

Next week, we kick off Oral Health Month by celebrating National Dental Hygienists Week (April 4-10). We appreciate their hard work every day of the year, but this gives us a special opportunity to acknowledge how important they are to our team. Meet our two newest Registered Dental Hygienists, Meagan and Carolynn in this month's Adjunct Faculty Profile.
