Academic Updates

January 2023

Accreditation

Accreditation is an exciting time that gives every School an opportunity to ensure we are providing the best possible learner experience. While our cycle officially begins in 2024, Dentistry’s Core Leadership Team has already been reviewing pre-survey documentation for our upcoming accreditation cycle which will impact all of our graduate and undergraduate programs. The Commission on Dental Accreditation of Canada (CDAC) will be reaching out to us soon to get the process underway, and it is critical to demonstrate that we are striving to be the best possible dental school we can be. Watch for emails with details specific to your area over the next few months.

Governance Renewal

Earlier this month, Dr. Harvey Goldberg chaired the first Governance Renewal Committee meeting. The group will be examining formal governance at Schulich Dentistry with a review of the School’s committees and policies. In the meantime, Dr. Inocencio and Terri MacDougall continue to review and update academic policies as required. A template to ensure consistency among course outlines has been shared and Terri is meeting with Course Directors individually to support this transition.

Curriculum Renewal

Dr. Abbas Jessani is leading the Curriculum Renewal Committee which had its first meeting in December. Work is now underway to map the DDS Program curriculum. This committee’s mandate is to review and provide a redesign of the curriculum in all areas of the DDS Program. It will also develop an implementation plan for the renewed curriculum and a measurement framework for its success.
