Dr. Stuart Merrill Busby

1922-2007

Dr. Stuart Busby, son of Dr. Eldon Busby, graduated from the University of Western Ontario in 1943.  He then served as surgeon lieutenant in the Royal Canadian Navy Volunteer from 1944-1946, before undergoing post-graduate training in General Surgery and Urology in London, Ontario and then in Ann Arbor, Michigan under the tutelage of Dr. Reid Nesbit. Stuart then returned to London, Ontario and took over the Urology practice of his father, Eldon, in 1951.

Dr. Stuart Busby served on the active surgical staff at Victoria Hospital, St. Joseph’s Hospital, the Beck Memorial Sanatorium and at Westminster Hospital (now Victoria Hospital) where he served as Chief of Urology and provided much appreciated urologic care to World War II veterans.

Outside of Urology, Dr. Busby was an avid golfer, fly fisherman and hunter.  His “venison dinner parties” were legendary amongst Urology colleagues and residents.  Dr. Busy was well known amongst residents for his interoperative proficiency, both in transurethral and open surgeries.  He retired from Urology in 1981 and acquired another hobby: soapstone carving, which he became extremely skilled at.
