Welcome to PGME!

Message from the Associate Dean

Welcome to the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry’s Office of Postgraduate Medical Education.  Schulich is a great place for postgraduate training, offering nearly 50 postgraduate programs accredited by the College of Family Physicians of Canada or the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada.  We are committed to providing an outstanding resident experience, whether in London or in our diverse distributed sites.  Our programs offer an outstanding depth and breadth of educational experiences that will prepare learners for challenging and productive careers.

In October 2012, accreditation surveys were conducted in the Postgraduate Medical Education program at Schulich Medicine & Dentistry by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, and the College of Family Physicians of Canada.  All surveyed programs were successful in achieving accreditation, and for most, the next recommended follow up will be in 2018. Between now and then, the PGME Office maintains a rigorous internal review process to promote and ensure educational quality, and to help our programs to meet and exceed ever-evolving national standards. The 2012 accreditation report highlighted some of our strengths, citing many excellent programs for the innovation and creativity they bring to the process of educating residents. Our distributed medical education program, our collaborative relationship with hospital partners, and our continuous quality improvement approach were also highlighted.

The PGME Office promotes and supports excellence in clinical teaching, curriculum design, clinical assessment, and program evaluation.  We are available to assist programs with all aspects of postgraduate training, including the development and strengthening of robust curricula that address the CanMEDS roles in a meaningful way.  Please contact us with any inquiries related to postgraduate training.
