Dr. Jacinta Santos is a tenured Professor at Western University Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry. She completed her Master of Science in Dental Clinics and earned a Ph.D. in Operative Dentistry in 2003 from the University of Sao Paulo - USP, with part of her research studies conducted at the University of Toronto. In 2009, Dr. Santos joined the faculty at Schulich Medicine & Dentistry.

Dr. J Santos is Chair of Operative Dentistry, along with several other administrative roles and scholarly activities. She is currently Assistant Dean, Learner Experience (Dentistry); Chair of the Internationally Trained Dentists Program (ITD); Corse director of Operative second-year course and has served as a member of many Schulich Dentistry committees.

In addition to her role as a Professor, Dr. J Santos has actively dedicated her time to research and has more than 40 peer-reviewed articles published in peer-reviewed international journals. She has been a reviewer of many prestigious peer-reviewed international journals, such as Operative Dentistry, Journal of Adhesive Dentistry, Journal of Esthetic and Restorative Dentistry, Journal of Clinical Oral Investigations, European Journal of Oral Sciences, and others. Dr. Santos has trained and supervised graduate and undergraduate students research throughout her career. Her research focus involves dental biomaterials and Restorative Dentistry (ceramic, CAD-CAM, adhesion in dentistry, resin composites, bonding agents, resin-modified glass ionomers; preventive and minimally invasive dentistry). She holds membership with the International Association for Dental Research (IADR), the Royal College of Dental Surgeons of Ontario (RCDSO) and remains an Honorary Member of the Brazilian Dental Association.

Dr. Santos has been the recipient of many awards throughout her career. Most recently, she received first place in both Canada and North America in the Dentsply Clinical Case Contest. She had also received the Schulich Dentistry Professional Development Award in 2017. Some of her dental research students have received the ADA Foundation Student Travel Award, the HINMAN Symposium Student Travel Award, the NCOHR Student Research Award, and the Quintessence Research Award.
