Dr. Rakesh Sondekoppam

sondekoppam_250x300.jpgDr. Rakesh Sondekoppam, is a clinical associate professor and the division director of regional anesthesia and acute pain medicine at the University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine in Iowa City. He heads the acute pain and regional anesthesia services at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics (UIHC) and continues to be involved in resident and fellowship training at the UIHC. He is also the founding member and past vice chair of the ASRA Pain Medicine Green Anesthesia special interest group (ASRA GrreenSIG). He has a broad background in anesthesia, with specific training and expertise in regional anesthesia.  His research area focuses on the anatomical and clinical evaluation of various peripheral nerve and interfascial plane blocks and has had multiple publications in the specialty. Recently, he has been actively involved in the area of environmental sustainability in perioperative medicine and exploring ways to mitigate the impact of anesthetic practice on the environment. He is a co-founder and ex-chair of a section on sustainable practice in the Canadian Anesthesiologist’s Society (CAS).
