Dr. Jason Chui - Canadian Anesthesiologists' Society Research Award (New Investigator)

Congratulations to Dr. Jason Chui!

The Research Grant Standing Subcommittee of the Canadian Anesthesiologists' Society (CAS) recently met to review submissions to the CAS 2018 Research Program. Dr. Chui was awarded the CAS Operating Grant - Canadian Anesthesiologists' Society Research Award (New Investigator) for his project “A randomized controlled study in detection and prevention of nerve injury using a novel automated Somatosensory Evoked Potential monitoring device in shoulder arthroplasty surgery.”

This study is an investigation of using an automated nerve monitor to prevent intraoperative nerve injury in total shoulder arthroplasty surgery. Alongside Dr. John Murkin, Dr. Chui has investigated the perioperative nerve injury over the past few years. The team has two accepted articles on the research that will be published in the near future.

Dr. Chui has also recently published The Trileaflet Mitral Valve and “Anesthesiologists' perception of perioperative stroke risk during non-neurologic and non-cardiac surgery” along with Sewell D, Gelb AW, Meng L, and Flexman AM (Can J Anaesth. 2018 Feb; 65(2):225-226. DOI: 10.1007/s12630-017-1011-0. Epub 2017 Nov 17.)
