Family Medicine Grand Rounds - Beyond cultural competence; An introduction to cultural humility

Join us for Family Medicine Grand Rounds on Wednesday, June 7, to be held via Microsoft TEAMS from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m.

Hiba Elfayoumi MD, CCFP, MCISc FM candidate, will present, "Beyond cultural competence; An introduction to cultural humility."

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

The general principal learning objectives for the overall Grand Rounds in Family Medicine program are:

  1. Identify, discuss and appraise pertinent and relevant clinical family practice guidelines and literature;
  2. Identify and discuss current evidence supporting treatment of common conditions in primary care;
  3. Interpret the relevant literature and current state in primary care with respect to the practice of dermoscopy
    (limited to pigmented lesions);
  4. Apply the 3-point checklist in triaging melanomas and other suspicious lesions.

 

Session learning objectives:

  1. Describe the concept of cultural humility and explain the difference between cultural humility and cultural competence;
  2. Illustrate the role of cultural humility in the care of marginalized populations;
  3. Demonstrate the value of incorporating cultural humility in medical training; and
  4. Review resources for newcomers that every Family Physician should know.

This one-credit-per-hour Group Learning program meets the certification criteria of the College of Family Physicians of Canada and has been certified by Continuing Professional Development, Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry, Western University for up to 9.0 Mainpro+ credits. Each participant should claim only those hours of credit that he/she actually spent participating in the educational program.
