Celebrating 50 Years of Academic Family Medicine

The Department of Family Medicine is celebrating 50 years of academic family medicine, excelling in patient-centred care, education and research at Western University.

As one of the first departments of family medicine in Canada, and the first in Ontario, Western's Department of Family Medicine led in introducing the idea that family/general practice was a distinct discipline within medicine, and is widely regarded as the birthplace of Canadian family medicine.

The Department has been a leader in education and patient care since it was established in 1968, and remains committed to developing exemplary family physicians and future leaders in healthcare through clinical excellence, professional education, administrative leadership and robust research.

The Department will celebrate the anniversary throughout 2018 with numerous events and activities, including our cornerstone event, a celebration lecture with Dr. Danielle Martin on Wednesday, May 30 at 1:00 p.m.
