Translational Neuroscience Group (TNG)
Purpose
The TNG contributes greatly to Western's global leadership in cognitive neuroscience, cellular and molecular neuroscience, and neuroimaging. Programs bridge molecular, cellular, circuit, and behavioural levels of analysis in human and non-human animal models, addressing key issues such as: how the nervous system processes information, learns new skills, makes decisions, maintains abilities across the lifespan or in the face of disease, and recovers these abilities after brain injury. The group also develops new technologies to facilitate fundamental discoveries and accelerate the diagnosis and treatment of devastating neurological diseases.
Background
The Translational Neuroscience Group at Robarts Research Institute was created in December 2019 in response to the aspirations of approximately 25 Robarts core and associated scientists. Today, this collaborative group of 37 highly interdisciplinary scientists is dedicated to understanding the function of the central nervous system in health and disease and translating their findings into knowledge that impacts society.

Strategic Activities
Strategy 1: Consolidate research core facilities by evaluating core strengths and filling key gaps
Strategy 2: Promote team applications spanning multiple labs for national and international funding in translational, clinical, and integrative neuroscience
Strategy 3: Work with Schulich leadership and Departmental Chairs for targeted recruitment to fill knowledge gaps
Strategy 4: Foster multidisciplinary collaborative research through seed funding, student co-supervision, and inter-lab postdoctoral fellowships
Strategy 5: Support and mentor junior Faculty to maximize their contribution to the research enterprise
Strategy 6: Increase collaborative ties with the broad Western academic and clinical community
Strategy 7: Advance Open Science principles to increase transparency, rigour, and reproducibility
