Test Utilization, Optimization and Quality Assurance
The results of laboratory tests are the cornerstone of patient care and play a critical role in medical decisions. Quality assurance and improvement is the foundation of laboratory medicine focusing on providing accurate, timely test results, new test development and insuring testing is utilized appropriately. Researchers in this group come from multiple disciplines, many trained in quality improvement or subspecialties with a focus on developing state of the art laboratory diagnostics. We share the common goals of insuring the "right patient gets the right test" to meet the needs of care and recognize the importance of health resource stewardship. As such the research focus of this theme has moved beyond the laboratory involving collaborations with medical teams and healthcare leaders to optimize testing while "Choosing Wisely Together".
