Canadian College of Medical Geneticists Training Programs
The Canadian College of Medical Geneticists (CCMG) post-graduate fellowship training program provides clinical and laboratory training in genetics. Western University offers a full range of two- or three-year subspecialty genetics programs that follow the guidelines established and published by the CCMG.
London Health Science Centre is accredited by the Canadian College of Medical Geneticists to offer training in:
- Genetic and Genomic Diagnostics
- Laboratory Biochemical Genetics
- Clinical Biochemical Genetics
- Clinical Genetics
Program Outline
The laboratory training path is offered through the Pathology and Laboratory Medicine department and includes programs in Genetic and Genomic Diagnostics (cytogenetics and molecular genetics), and Laboratory Biochemical Genetics for trainees with a PhD or an MD with training in a laboratory-based residency program.
Eligibility Criteria

Application Process
Candidates interested in applying to our laboratory specialty program are encouraged to submit an up-to-date CV and three reference letters. Please note that our program begins each July, and the application deadline is in August of the preceding year. Contact information for the program is listed below.
The committee will select the best candidate by early fall to apply to Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care Laboratory Genetics Fellowship funding. Please note that only two candidates across the three specialties will be funded in Ontario each year.

Examination
Individuals completing the program will meet the training requirements necessary to sit for the Genetic and Genomic Diagnostics or Laboratory Biochemical Genetics certification examinations offered by the Canadian College of Medical Geneticists.
