Collaborative Research and Innovation Fund

The Collaborative Research and Innovation Fund (CRIF) is earmarked for collaborative research among faculty members in the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry (the Department). This fund is intended to promote collaborative research between the basic science and clinical sides of the Department in pursuit of our shared academic mission.

CRIF is open to all faculty members with a primary appointment in the Department. Research projects must be developed jointly by two co-PIs, one of whom must be a Basic or Clinical Scientist (PhD), the other a Clinical Academic (MD or equivalent). The value of the grants is $15,000 and up to two grants will be awarded per year.

Pathology Research and Innovation Fund

The Pathology Research and Innovation Fund (PRIF) (formerly PIFAD) is available to clinical academic faculty in the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry, who have a primary clinical appointment in Anatomical Pathology or Neuropathology. This funding will support research that benefits the academic mission of the Department. For each competition, two granting streams are available:

  1. Stream 1: Pathologist is the Principal Investigator (PI)
  2. Stream 2: Pathology trainee (resident or clinical fellow) is the PI, with at least one pathologist as a mentor. The pathology resident or fellow must be enrolled in the Anatomical Pathology or Neuropathology Residency Program at Western University. The pathologist mentor is responsible for supervising the project and overseeing project expenditures.
