Members of the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine are involved in both basic science and clinical research activities and collaborate with a number of researchers across the university and academic health sciences centre.

The Department has continued to enhance its research capacity and impact. Even with a relatively small core faculty complement, the Department has developed a significantly larger and more comprehensive graduate program over the years. The key to our growth has been the productivity of our research faculty and cross-appointees in both basic science and clinical departments at the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry, and in the Faculties of Science and Social Science. Our researchers have continued to maintain their respective research programs, which are in perfect alignment with Schulich Medicine & Dentistry key areas of research strengths. These areas of research include cancer biology, cardiovascular science, biomedical imaging, infection and immunity, and global health.
