Applications for CLERKSHIP Awards (Meds 2024)

The following Meds2024 Clerkship Awards are now available for nomination/application. Individual criteria varies for each award please read each application carefully. Award sums were confirmed at time of posting however are subject to change. Links to applications will be updated as they become available. Self-nominations are not permitted for any award that requires a nomination. In addition students should not solicit other students or faculty for nominations on their own behalf. Note: This is not a complete list of awards. It is only a list of awards that require applications to be submitted with summer deadlines.

 


YEAR 3 (Clerkship) AWARDS FOR MEDS 2024

Robert K. Annett Memorial Award (Based on Class Nominations)

Awarded annually to a Doctor of Medicine (MD) student who, during the clinical clerkship, has best demonstrated awareness and concern for co-workers, as well as empathy and compassion for the physical and emotional needs of patients. Online nomination forms must be submitted to the Undergraduate Medical Education Office by Sep 5th. The recipient will be selected by the Clerkship and Electives Committee, based on the nominations received from the class. Donated by the family and friends of Dr. Robert K. Annett in honour of his efforts to promote professional conduct of this kind. Value: 1 at $500

Elena B. Wolf Memorial Awards

Awarded annually for essays in the field of cancer research or treatment submitted by students in clinical clerkship. Submissions will be adjudicated by the Department of Oncology of the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry. An online application as well as the essay must be submitted on or before Sep 5th. In memory of Mrs. Elena B. Wolf. Value: Number of awards will vary annually to a combined total of $800

 


Entering Year 4 AWARDS FOR MEDS 2024

(Meds 2024 are welcome to apply for the following awards) 

Meds Class of 1995 Dr. Rob Tingley Memorial Award

Awarded to a full-time student entering their fourth year of the Doctor of Medicine (MD) program who, will be pursuing a  medical overseas experience in a low-resource country and will travel within the next 6 months. This award is intended to assist with the travel or program expenses directly related to a medical overseas elective experience. Interested students are asked to submit an online application to the  Undergraduate Medical Education Office by Sep 5th. The recipient will be selected by a committee from the Internationalization Office from the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry with the approval of the Undergraduate Medical Education Awards Committee.  This award was established by the friends and family of Dr. Rob Tingley of the Medical Class of 1995.  Dr. Tingley's elective in Kijabe, Kenya in 1994 was a life-altering experience.  His friends and family have chosen to honour his legacy by enabling future students to have similar experiences.   *Value: 1 at $4,000 (*funding subject to change, under review for 23-24)

Dr. P.H. Brooke International Travel Award in Medicine

Awarded annually to a full-time student entering fourth year of the Doctor of Medicine (MD) program who will be pursuing a medical overseas experience in an African country. This award is intended to assist with the travel or program expenses directly related to a medical overseas elective experience. Interested students are asked to submit an online application to the Undergraduate Medical Education Office by Sep 5th. The recipient will be selected by a committee from the Internationalization Office from the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry with the approval of the Undergraduate Medical Education Awards Committee. This award was established by Dr. Priscilla Brooke (MD 1969). Dr. Brooke’s time spent as a medical doctor in several African countries was a life-altering experience. *Value: 1 at $3,000 (*funding subject to change, under review for 23-24)

 

Joan Scarfone Memorial Award

Awarded to a full-time student entering their fourth year of the Doctor of Medicine (MD) program who, will be pursuing a medical overseas experience in a low-resource country and will travel within the next 6 months and will be awarded prior to the student's departure. Preference will be given to a student registered at the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry Windsor Campus, however, if there are no qualified students that apply from the Windsor Campus the award may be distributed to qualified medical student at the London Campus. Interested students are asked to submit an online application to the Undergraduate Medical Education Office by Sep 5th. The recipient will be selected by a committee from the Internationalization Office from the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry with the approval of the Progression & Awards Committee. This award was established by Dr. David John Scarfone (MD`82) in honour of his mother Joan. *Value: 1 at $1,250 (*funding subject to change, under review for 23-24)

 

Stigma Enigma Sophie Smith Scholarship

Awarded annually to a full-time undergraduate student entering in Year 4, Doctor of Medicine (MD) program, who plans to complete his/her residency in psychiatry. While preference will be given to students of the Windsor Campus, the scholarship is open to all 4th year MD students of the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry. Candidates must submit a one-page statement by September 5th to the Office of the Associate Dean, Windsor Campus, outlining their plans to complete their residency in psychiatry. The recipient will be selected by the Progression and Awards Committee, Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry on recommendation of the Associate Dean, Windsor Campus. This award was established by Dr. Patrick Smith. Value: 1 at $1,000 Dr. Patrick Smith established this scholarship in memory of Sophie Smith. This scholarship will be awarded each November at the Stigma Enigma Event for Mental Health.
