About VSE

The Visiting Student Electives program at Schulich Medicine & Dentistry offers medical students from other institutions the opportunity to complete clinical electives.

Placement in a visiting clinical elective depends on departmental capacity and the timely submission of a completed application through the AFMC Student Portal.

We ask that you wait until your elective has been approved and confirmed by the VSE office before reaching out to individual preceptors or clinical departments. While they’re happy to share information about their electives or postgraduate programs, direct contact won’t help secure a placement.

Guidelines for applicants

Before participating in a visiting clinical elective, all students must meet Schulich Medicine & Dentistry’s pre-placement requirements through Synergy—a secure online system used to verify essential documentation.
