On March 26, Dr. Alan Shepard informed the University community that Western would postpone spring convocation as part of its larger response to the COVID-19 pandemic. This includes all scheduled ceremony dates from May 22 through June 19.

This difficult decision was made by the University’s Convocation Board with guidance from public health authorities and with the best interests of the Western community at heart, particularly graduating students and their families, as well as the many faculty and staff whose efforts make convocation such a joyous occasion.
Graduating students will have their degrees conferred this spring, graduation “awarded” status will be reflected on official transcripts.

If students haven’t already done so, they are encouraged to apply to graduate by visiting the Office of the Registrar’s website.

The University is committed to enabling students to participate in a future convocation ceremony after the threat of the pandemic has safely subsided. Further updates on this will be provided as our contingency plans develop.
