Terms of Use, Content Retention Policy, and Privacy Recommendation

Terms of Service:

Panopto collects analytics, including videos viewed, view counts, total minutes viewed per video, and average viewing time of logged-in users. This information is available to Schulich IT administrators and Schulich Faculty upon request. All information is stored and encrypted externally on servers located within Canada.

If you participate online using Panopto's discussion boards or video comments, your views and opinions may be displayed to other service users. Western's policies on the proper use of computing resources, non-discrimination, harassment, and Schulich's expectations concerning professionalism apply to any discussions on Panopto service.

The University of Western Ontario collects this information under the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act.  If you have any questions about managing your personal information, please get in touch with ETMS by submitting a ticket.

Content Retention Policy:

The content retention policy is part of the management strategy for media assets and storage capacity of Schulich's Panopto video platform. By using Schulich's Panopto platform, you comply with the content retention policy below:

  • Content will be archived and removed from the Panopto video platform if it has been stored for 24 months without being viewed. Archived videos will be made available to owners for their records, by way of portable or network storage.

Privacy Recommendation:

We recommend that instructors recording in-class lectures include a privacy statement in their course syllabus.

Example: 

Course lectures may be recorded and made available online for students in this course. As a participant in this course, your likeness and/or voice may be recorded during a lecture recording. If you do not wish to be recorded, please contact [instructor] during the first week of class to discuss alternative arrangements.
