Rheumatology

Contact person: Dr. Sherry Rohekar

The rheumatology elective at St. Joseph's hospital allows residents to learn hands-on about the diagnosis, treatment and management of inflammatory rheumatic conditions.  For our family medicine elective residents, we focus on teaching how to differentiate between mechanical and autoimmune conditions, how to perform MSK injections and how to co-manage complicated patients.  In a one-month block, residents will be exposed to rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, psoriatic arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, scleroderma, vasculitis, polymyalgia rheumatic and temporal arteritis.  We also encourage family medicine residents to inject as many knees and shoulders as possible!

Call: Residents will be assigned junior rheumatology call, and be responsible for inpatient consults and receiving phone calls to from patients to the on call service.
Scheduling: Can take any number of residents/block.
