Rotation Outline:
Leamington District Memorial Hospital is a small rural hospital in Essex County. It is approximately 1 hour from Windsor and 2 hours from London. There are about 60 beds. The Internal Medicine Unit is a 15 bed unit-half of them with Telemetry and a Level 2 ICU with 2 core beds and 1 surge bed.
In regards to the Internal Medicine Department, there are 4 general internists; one with GI expertise doing Gastroscopy and Colonoscopy. Internists are on call one week monthly. Residents would rotate and shadow each internist according to the call schedule. When on call there would be one or two days of office and the rest is dedicated to consultations.
It is a very busy practice. About 70% of the practice is Cardiology and the rest is Pulmonary Medicine, Hypertension, Diabetes etc.
Currently this group would be able to accommodate about 3 residents a year.
