Hospitalist Program – Parkwood Hospital

Contact person:

Dr. Mumtaz Alam

Address:

Parkwood Hospital

The goal of this program is to provide family medicine residents with exposure to  full-service hospitalist work.

There are three main units of rehabilitation which include stroke/spinal cord injury and acquired brain injury/and MSK units.  They are all inpatients only with, on average, 40-50 inpatients (beds).  The team includes a physiatrist, hospitalist, OT, PT, SW, dietician, pharmacist, psychologist, and nursing staff.

The patients are mostly discharged from LHSC for further rehabilitation.  Patients from other hospitals may also be sent to Parkwood (e.g Windsor, St. Thomas, Woodstock, etc.).

Dr. Alam is the main CA and is the MRP for the beds and does admission as well as discharges.  He looks after their medical issues during their admission.

Work hours are 9:00am-5:00pm with on calls every 9-10 days.  Once a week, there are main walking rounds for every unit.  Rounds are run together with the physiatrist and hospitalist, along with other team members.
