Practice Profile

Family Medicine residents completing a 1-block Geriatric rotation are usually assigned to the Geriatric Rehabilitation Unit at Parkwood Hospital as their home base. Residents also participate in ambulatory clinics on a regular basis. These include Wound Care, Movement Disorders, General Geriatrics, Osteoporosis, Aging Brain, and Continence clinic. Outreach/home-visits either in London or the surrounding area may occur over the course of the rotation as the opportunity becomes available. Formal teaching occurs on Tuesday afternoons and residents are expected to complete a 30 minute evidenced based presentation once over the course of the rotation. Learning objectives focus on the comprehensive assessment of frail older adults, candidacy for rehabilitation, the diagnosis and management of delirium, dementia and depression, preventative health and the detection and management of osteoporosis.
