Family Medicine Interest Group kicks off new school year

With a new academic year in session, the Family Medicine Interest Group would like to introduce ourselves as well as highlight the exciting plans that we have in store for the upcoming year.

Richard and Alex will be working together as the 2018-2019 FMIG Co-Chairs in London. Along with a team of dedicated peers, we will be organizing various events to promote exposure to family medicine in the undergraduate medical experience.

This year, we would like to introduce a monthly lunchtime talk series dedicated to each plus-one specialty, with either residents or physicians highlighting aspects of their specific program and their careers. This series will be in addition to other talks planned throughout the year, including our first talk focusing on “Why Family Medicine?”

We plan to finish the ‘Family Medicine FAQ Guide’ which was coming to fruition at the end of last year. This resource is a bank of questions asked by Schulich medical students, which will be answered by a variety of family medicine residents and physicians.

We will continue to run the successful mentorship program between Schulich’s family medicine residents and medical students, as well as run our two main events: the Mix and Mingle Night in November and the Clinical Skills Day happening early next year.

We look forward to working with the residents, physicians, and entire Department of Family Medicine for this upcoming year!
