Welcoming Dr. David Urbach, Chair/Head, Department of Surgery
Please join us in welcoming Dr. David Urbach (Professor, Division of General Surgery) as the new Chair of the Department of Surgery at the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry and Department Head at London Health Sciences Centre and St. Joseph’s Health Care London.
Dr. Urbach brings extensive experience as a practicing general surgeon, academic leader, researcher and health policy expert. Most recently, he served as Clinical Lead, Central Intake at Ontario Health, and previously held several leadership roles at Women’s College Hospital, including Surgeon in Chief and Head of the Department of Surgery. His research focuses on improving access to surgical care and the sustainability and delivery of surgical services in Canada.
As he begins his five-year term, Dr. Urbach looks forward to listening and learning from our faculty, staff, researchers and learners, while building on the Department’s strong record of excellence in clinical care, education, research and innovation.
Please join the Department in thanking Dr. Emil Schemitsch (Professor, Division of Orthopaedic Surgery) for his dedication and commitment to the Department of Surgery, the London Health Sciences Centre, St. Joseph’s Hospital, and the Schulich Medicine & Dentistry over his past two terms as Department Chair/Head.
