New Chair in Orthopaedic Research and Innovation Established
A new Chair in Orthopaedic Research and Innovation has been established at the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry, supported by a $2.5 million philanthropic gift through the London Health Sciences Foundation and matched by Western University. The Chair will be held within the Division of Orthopaedic Surgery and will advance research focused on improving outcomes in hip and knee arthroplasty.
Hip and knee joint replacement surgeries are among the most common procedures performed in Canada, yet they continue to carry risks such as implant failure, instability, infection, and the need for revision surgery. This endowed Chair will support multidisciplinary research aimed at better understanding implant performance, developing new tools and technologies, and addressing the challenges surgeons face in joint reconstruction.
By providing stable, long-term funding, the Chair will strengthen Schulich Medicine & Dentistry’s leadership in orthopaedic research, attract top-tier clinician-scientists, and accelerate innovations that directly improve patient care. This investment reflects the Division of Orthopaedic Surgery’s strong reputation for excellence and underscores the impact of donor-supported research in advancing surgical innovation.
