Funding Opportunities

The Postgraduate Medical Education (PGME) Office is now accepting applications for the Resident/Fellow Travel Award. The deadline for submission is Tuesday, October 31, 2023 at 4:00 pm. The criteria and eligibility for the award can be found here. Internal Funding

Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine Resident/Fellow Travel Reimbursement Fund. Up to $3,000 annually. Please click here for further details.

Marvin S. Smout Resident Travel Award: All Diagnostic and Molecular Pathology and Neuropathology Residents currently in the respective training programs at The University of Western Ontario are eligible to apply for this award. Research must have been performed primarily within the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at London Health Sciences Centre and the results of the research have been accepted (presentation/poster) at an international/national meeting. Pathology and Laboratory Medicine Research Day. Each year the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine funds the following awards at the annual departmental research day: Chair’s Award for Best Presentation by a Resident; Best Clinical Science Poster Presentation Award; Best Basic/Clinical Science Collaborative Poster Presentation Award.

Book Allowance: One time allowance of $250 to be redeemed in senior years (PGY4/5).

Pathology Research and Innovation Fund (PRIF). The London Pathology Associates fund an internal competition twice a year (deadlines March 15 and September 15) to support research and educational development projects (up to $5,000). The primary applicant must be a faculty member and must hold a primary clinical appointment in Diagnostic and Molecular Pathology or Neuropathology. Residents are encouraged to discuss this opportunity with a pathologist, and to apply as co-investigators. Please contact Angela DeCandido for further information.

Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry PGE travel awards. Up to $2,000 each. Deadline for submission of applications April 30 and October 31. For more information please click here.

P.S.I. Foundation and RCPSC Annual Resident Research Award. Prizes of $2,000 each. Residents registered with the Postgraduate Medical Education Office in one of Western University's postgraduate training programs or the CIP Program are eligible to apply. Excellence in research papers will be the sole criterion for selection of prize winners. To qualify, the research must have been conducted during residency (PGY1-6) at Western University. Fellows are not eligible for these prizes. Deadline for submissions is May 30. For more information please click here.
