An international team of researchers, including Janet Martin from the Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics, estimates that global prioritization of vaccination for elective surgery patients could prevent close to 60,000 COVID-19-related deaths in one year.

In the distance, he saw another family wheeling their loved one off on a stretcher so he could pass away at home. Law was one of 13 undergraduate medical students who took advantage of an opportunity for an international elective. It was an eye-opening learning experience none will ever forget.

    Due to Global Affairs Canada’s continuing global travel advisory, and in line with our Safety Abroad policy, Western has made the difficult decision to extend the suspension of all outbound international university-sanctioned student travel for the Winter 2022 term (until April 30, 2022).
