Dr. Davy Cheng and Dr. Abdel-Rahman Lawendy named Schulich Geographic Leaders

We are pleased to announce that Dr. Davy Cheng and Dr. Abdel-Rahman Lawendy have been named Schulich Geographic Leaders. Dr. Cheng will assume the role of Geographic Leader for China while Dr. Lawendy will assume the role of Geographic Leader for the Middle East. The administrative posts are effective until August 31, 2019.

The role of each Geographic Leader is to serve as a resource and support to the Dean, the Senior Leadership Council and the Internationalization Office in developing a strategic direction for educational, clinical and research activities for the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry related to the specific country or region.

Dr. Cheng has been actively engaged with China for more than 20 years in the areas of teaching, scientific program organization, as well as faculty and clinical training in Anesthesia, Perioperative Medicine, Critical Care Medicine, and Pain Medicine. He has a strong professional network at Chinese hospitals, medical universities, non-governmental organizations and societies. He was awarded the Outstanding Contribution Award for Chinese Anesthesiology at the Chinese Society of Anesthesiology, for his leadership and mentorship in Chinese anesthesiology in 2009.

As Chair of the Master of Science in Surgery program, Dr. Lawendy has played a key role in expanding the School’s international footprint. He has been supporting the School’s engagement with the Middle East for the past five years by recruiting graduate students, securing funding through intuitional agreements and deepening Western’s relationships with universities, hospitals and health authorities throughout the Middle East.
