Undergraduate Report

The Undergraduate year is now well underway. Meds 2023 are completing electives and preparing CaRMS applications, Meds 2024 are eight weeks into clerkship, Meds 2025 are working through the Principles of Medicine II course, while the first years, Meds 2026, are learning in the Foundations of Medicine course. Meds 2025 have also begun their Longitudinal Clinical Experience Course, which has them matched with a preceptor for the equivalent of 6 ½ days between October and January 2023.

We are currently recruiting applications for our Clerkship and Electives Director Role:

Clerkship Responsibilities

  • Work with the Program Coordinator to troubleshoot placement issues involving Family Medicine clerkship students for both the FM-Core and FM-Plus rotations (not limited to problems with a preceptor, or a failing learner)
  • Work with the Program Coordinator to troubleshoot miscellaneous issues that arise from faculty (full time or adjunct), staff and/or students regarding clerkship
  • Work with the Windsor Family Medicine Rotation Director, as required, on clerkship and elective matters
  • Review the clerkship half-day education program for FM-Core based clerks annually and update/refresh as required
  • Review the Family Medicine clerkship assessment and evaluation tools annually, and update/refresh as required
  • Facilitate and/or proctor the Year 3 Family Medicine Clerkship Exit Exam
  • Review formative and summative clerk evaluations and develop/facilitate remedial learning plans for provisional and unsatisfactory evaluations
  • Attend the Clerkship and Electives Committee meeting as the Family Medicine representative and report back to the Family Medicine Undergraduate Committee

 

Elective Responsibilities

  • Work with the Program Coordinator to aid in managing the Year 4 Family Medicine Elective Program, including supporting the Visiting Student Electives Program
  • Work with the Program Coordinator to troubleshoot miscellaneous issues that arise from faculty (full time or adjunct), staff and/or students regarding electives

 

General Responsibilities

  • Participate as a member of the Department of Family Medicine Undergraduate Education Committee
  • Work with the Distributed Education Office of Schulich, as required, to address regional issues that affect faculty and/or students involved in Clerkship
  • With the assistance of members of the Undergraduate Education Committee, participate in undergraduate content and curriculum evaluation and development as requested
  • With the assistance of members of the Undergraduate Education Committee, review and ensure compliance with applicable clerkship accreditation standards

 

Time Required: 0.5 days per week
Term: 3 years, renewable
Reports to: Family Medicine Undergraduate Education Director
