Family Medicine Certification Examination Updates for Spring 2019

  • The length of the SAMP examination has been reduced from six hours to four hours, and therefore there are fewer questions compared to previous years. The new format is less exhausting for candidates, while maintaining an appropriate sampling of exam content and the same high-quality standards.
  • A new self-scheduling procedure allows candidates to select a preferred examination location and time. This must be coordinated with the date and location of the simulated office orals portion of the exam.
  • Enhanced security features and check-in procedure
  • More exam locations provide greater convenience for exam candidates
  • A total of 4.5 hours of in-the-seat time that will include:
    • A 15-minute introduction, a non-disclosure agreement and a tutorial at the start of the exam
    • An optional break of up to 15 minutes
    • The written component of the exam is now administered over one day, instead of two, with multiple sittings: two or three per day depending on site capacity and demand (no sequestering)
  • The enhanced examination interface includes improved highlighting features, navigation, and image resolution. A video demonstration of the new interface is in development and will be posted on the CFPC website when it is available.
