Media Release: Dr. Gillian Kernaghan appointed to the Premier’s Council on Improving Healthcare and Ending Hallway Medicine

St. Joseph’s Health Care London is pleased to announce that Dr. Gillian Kernaghan, has been appointed to the Premier's Council on Improving Healthcare and Ending Hallway Medicine. This group of visionary health system leaders aims to identify strategic priorities and actions that will lead to improved health and wellness outcomes for Ontarians, high patient satisfaction, and a more effective care delivery structure.

Dr. Kernaghan looks forward to bringing her dedication and commitment to quality care, safety and patient satisfaction to her new role as a council member. She welcomes this important opportunity, alongside patients and colleagues, to influence the development of a long-term vision for health care in Ontario and identify solutions to pressing and critical issues we have been experiencing across the province.

President and CEO of St. Joseph's since 2010, Dr. Kernaghan’s passion for integrated patient care, leadership and performance excellence is well known and her expertise sought across the province. She has served on numerous regional, provincial and national committees. Currently, Dr. Kernaghan serves on the Ontario Hospital Association Board of Directors, the Council of Academic Hospitals of Ontario Executive and Council, and is Chair of the Catholic Health Association of Ontario Board of Directors. She is also the immediate past Co-Chair of the Canadian Health Leadership Network, Co-Chair of the Southwestern Academic Health Network, and a past president of the Canadian Society of Physician Executives.  

A family physician by training, Dr. Kernaghan has held various leadership positions in London’s hospitals, including that of integrated Vice President, Medical, for St. Joseph’s and London Health Sciences Centre throughout 17 years of complex health care restructuring in London. With the recent restructuring of Local Health Integration Networks, Dr. Kernaghan is currently a member of the Southwest LHIN Health System Renewal Advisory Council.
