Awards: Drs. Bailey, Cargill, McKay, and Schmidt Ontario College of Family Physicians (OCFP) 2017 Award recipients

Congratulations Drs. Bailey, Cargill, McKay, and Schmidt, Family Medicine faculty recognized by the Ontario College of Family Physicians (OCFP) as 2017 Award recipients.

Each year the OCFP proudly celebrates the outstanding skill, knowledge and dedication of family doctors across Ontario through their Awards program. The recipients exemplify the vital work family doctors do to help keep Ontarians healthy.

Dr. Kathryn Bailey received the Region 2 Family Physician of the Year Award recognizing her exemplary care to her patients and her contributions to the excellence of the field.

Drs. Cargill, McKay, and Schmidt each received an Ontario College of Family Physicians 2017 Award of Excellence. The Award of Excellence recognizes exceptional achievement in a specific area or project pertaining to the specialty of family medicine in the last 12 to 24 months.

Dr. Darren Cargill of Windsor was recognized for his leadership in palliative and end-of-life care. Dr. Cargill acts as the voice of hospice palliative care in Windsor, and advocates for better publically funded access to palliative care under Dan’s Law.

Dr. Scott McKay, faculty at the Byron Family Medical Centre in London, was recognized for his expertise in developing and championing quality improvement (QI) initiatives in Ontario through the Quality Improvement Project, and for his exemplary leadership in medical education as a teacher and mentor.

Dr. Larry Schmidt, Professor Emeritus, was recognized for his commitment to his patients and the practice of family medicine. Dr. Schmidt is dedicated to moving the population toward a healthier lifestyle as co-founder of the Canadian Academy of Lifestyle Medicine.
