Dr. Monidipa Dasgupta wins LHSC Patient Safety Champion Award

Award-Winning Quality Improvement Project

Dr. Monidipa Dasgupta and team

Congratulations to Dr. Monidipa Dasgupta and team for being awarded the 2025 LHSC Patient Safety Champion Team Award! This award, which recognizes teams for demonstrating an ongoing commitment to improving quality and patient safety, was presented on Friday, October 31, 2025, by LHSC leaders Shannon Maier, VP Children's Hospital, Women's Care, Quality, Risk, and Pharmacy, and Krista Muncaster, Director Quality, Risk, and Corporate Privacy. Additional team members include Nurse Practitioners Karli Crunican, Lyndsay Beker, and Michael Olawoore.

Their QI project – No-HARRMS: No-Holds: Alternative to Restraints for Respect, Mobility and Safety – addressed reducing the use of physical restraints on older adults at LHSC. Over three years, they decreased the proportion of patients experiencing restraints from 45% to 37% on the Acute Care of the Elderly (ACE) unit. Overall restraint days decreased from 711 to 400 without increased sedative use, falls, or violence rates.

Dr. Dasgupta successfully completed the CQUINS Quality Improvement in Healthcare Certificate course, coached by Dr. Alan Gob, in 2022.
