The Stephanie Just Resident Award

Awarded annually to a postgraduate trainee in a residency program in Clinical Neurological Sciences (CNS), with preference given to a resident whose research involves a Quality Improvement Project in Patient Care. Candidates must submit a summary of the research project to the Departmental Office of CNS outlining the details of their project by January 15, 2021. A committee in the Department of CNS will select the recipient.

The resident’s QI project should fall into one or more of the following areas:

  • improved patient/provider experience
  • improved population health
  • improved cost-effectiveness

This award was established by a generous gift from the Just Family in memory of Stephanie Just, who passed away at age 8 after a long battle with Familial Dysautonomia. In her short life, she treated everyone with kindness and looked for the bright side of everything. Her sister is a 2019 graduate of the neurology residency program.


Award Application Criteria:

To be considered for the award, Candidates must:

  1. Be a postgraduate trainee in a residency program in Clinical Neurological Sciences
  2. The resident’s QI project should fall into one or more of the following areas:
    1. improved patient/provider experience
    2. improved population health
    3. improved cost-effectiveness
  3. Complete the online Qualtrics form provided with all of the required information by January 15, 2021. This includes:
    1. Residents name
    2. Contact information for the applicant
    3. Faculty Supervisor that the resident is working with
    4. Summary of the research proposal– Maximum 500 words and proposed budget
    5. Timeline of their project – 1 year
    6. Preference will be given to Quality Improvement Research Projects
    7. The winner of the award must sign off that they are comfortable presenting their project at the Clinical Neurological Science Research Day or another international Conference.
