We extend our congratulations and best wishes to Dr. Mark Darling on his retirement from Western University, effective July 1, 2026, after 23 years of dedicated service.

Dr. Darling’s career began in South Africa where he completed his dental and oral pathology training. Since joining Western in 2003, Dr. Darling progressed from Assistant Professor to Professor, has authored more than 80 peer-reviewed publications, supervised several MSc students and summer research students, and has taught generations of dental students, residents and pathology trainees.

He has distinguished himself as an oral pathologist, educator and researcher and has been recognized for his contributions through the Wood Award for Excellence in Dental Education. His contributions to peer review service also earned him the Donald Kerr Award twice.

Most importantly, Dr. Darling has been a generous colleague and mentor whose expertise, diligence and commitment to students and patients have left a lasting mark on both Dentistry and Pathology. We thank him for his service and wish him every happiness in retirement.
