Major federal funding boost propels health research to new heights
With more than $20 million in new federal funding, researchers at Schulich Medicine & Dentistry are advancing a wide spectrum of biomedical and health research – from cancer immunotherapy and chronic disease to neuroscience, medical imaging and health systems innovation.
As part of this investment, the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) funded 16 projects at the School and LHSC for a combined $14.1 million in research funding.
In particular, we would like to acknowledge Dr. Tianqing Peng, whose project "Mitochondrial calpain-mediated ATP5A1 proteolysis in heart failure: therapeutic potential applications" received $979,200 in Project Grant funding. We also congratulate Dr. Saman Maleki and Co-Applicant Megan Hong (PhD Candidate in Pathology and Laboratory Medicine) on their funded Project Grant "The role of macrophages in anti-PD1 sensitivity in mismatch repair-deficient tumours" for $963,900.
Congratulations to all recipients!
