To: All 2013 PGY-1 CaRMS Matched Residents
Congratulations and welcome to postgraduate medical training at the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry, the London Health Sciences Centre (LHSC) and St. Joseph’s Health Care London (St. Joseph’s).
By the end of April you should receive, by e-mail (to the address you submitted to CaRMS), a Letter of Appointment and additional information on Western University registration requirements from the Postgraduate Medical Education Office (PGME). These prerequisites must be completed before you start your residency training. If we are missing information from your file the PGME office will be in touch with you.
You will also receive information from the Medical Affairs department at LHSC and St. Joseph’s regarding hospital credentialing requirements. All Medical Affairs requirements must be completed before you start your residency training. Medical Affairs will issue information by e-mail regarding the credentialing requirements the week of May 6th.
In the meantime, we encourage you to apply to the College of Physician and Surgeons of Ontario (CPSO) for your license (www.cpso.on.ca). You must also apply to the Canadian Medical Protective Association (CMPA) for membership (www.cmpa.org). Both the CPSO and CMPA processes can be lengthy so we encourage you to initiate them immediately. You do not need to wait until you receive your Letter of Appointment to start these processes.
If you have not received your registration information by the end of April please check the PGME web site first for updates at http://www.schulich.uwo.ca/medicine/postgraduate/index.php. If the web site confirms that the registration information has been sent out and you do not see it in your e-mail mailbox, please check your spam file.
