Postgraduate Accreditation Fast Approaching!

Wednesday, September 19, 2012

Every 6 years, all our postgraduate training programs must undergo a rigorous accreditation process involving an on-site review. Accreditation is conducted by the two national certifying colleges for residency training, the College of Family Physicians of Canada and the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. Survey teams drawn from across the country will visit Schulich from September 30 until October 5, and while here will review each individual program and will also assess Schulich's postgraduate organization and resources.

Schulich's PGME Office, along with each of our Program Directors, have been preparing for months for this accreditation visit. Accreditation is vitally important for residency training, since all postgraduate training in Canada must occur within accredited programs. Accreditation is more than just a requirement to maintain our programs, however. It is an opportunity to highlight the fine work of our programs, our program directors, our teaching faculty, and our residents. Accreditation can invigorate programs and motivate innovation and improvement.

Please support the efforts of our PGME Office and our programs to ensure a successful accreditation visit. Be kind to Program Directors and residents during what will no doubt be a busy week!
