- Chair's Message
With the Thanksgiving weekend behind us and as we move further into autumn, the colours continue to change across the region. Once again, we find ourselves well into a new academic year. For faculty, you will have welcomed new residents, and more recently, new clinical clerks into your practices. Teaching is ramping up on-campus and beyond, and over 150 first-year medical students will soon start their first clinical placement, the Longitudinal Clinical Experience (LCE), with you. - Undergraduate Report
The rotations have been running smoothly. Meds 2028 and Meds 2029 will be participating in the Longitudinal Clinical Experience (LCE) throughout the academic year. We are actively matching and connecting students with their LCE preceptors. - Postgraduate Report
Congratulations to Dr. Herta Kankpeyeng (PGY2) training at St. Joseph’s Family Medical Centre who was recently recognized by the LHSC “Great Moments Recognition Program.” New Teaching Site for 2026 – Welcome to Dr. Jason Murray and the Kincardine Family Health Team at the Hawthorne Community Clinic who will join us as a new teaching site in July 2026. We are excited to be expanding to rural Kincardine. - Graduate Report
From September 15th – 25th, the Family Medicine Graduate Programs held a very successful launch of the 2025-26 academic year with the on-site portion. There were 7 Masters students and 1 PhD student present from across Canada and Brazil. - Research Report
Drs. Dan Lizotte, Amanda Terry and Keith Thompson were part of the exciting lineup of events and activities during this year’s Schulich Homecoming held September 26th - 28th, 2025. Dr. Sarah Gallagher, Director of the Western Institute for Earth and Space Exploration hosted an event that highlighted technology based health innovations relevant to remote care. Groups of alumni toured the Western Space Mission Control Facility and were shown examples of these technologies. - Community Spotlight: Fisher Family Primary Care Centre (Listowel)
The North Perth Family Health Team and Listowel Clinic are pleased to host medical students and resident physicians from Western University and beyond. Learners in our community participate in patient care in the family medicine clinic, hospital ward, obstetrical ward, and emergency department, with varying degrees of independence. A number of our recently recruited family doctors spent time in our community as learners. Our local doctors are proud to be involved in all aspects of medical education, and helping to train the next generation of Canada's health care providers. - Clinical Academic Appointment: Clinical Researcher, Department of Family Medicine Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry, Western University

The successful candidate will be expected to have a research program in family medicine and will be appointed to the Department of Family Medicine.
