MClSc Program:

Established in 1977, this was the first Master's level program to prepare family physicians for academic family medicine roles. Since 1997, the program has been offered in a distance education format on the Internet.
The Master of Clinical Science program  attracts Family Physicians from Canada and around the world who wish to enhance their knowledge, skills, and leadership within the discipline of Family Medicine. This program combines on-site (two weeks, once yearly) with distance education via the Internet. The course of study is designed to fit the needs of the individual student and utilizes the broad range of academic and research expertise of the faculty. The program is offered as both a part-time and a full-time program.

Admission Requirements:   

Student applicants are required to have a "B" grade point average in their undergraduate work, to have successfully completed an MD program, and to have completed the residency training in Family Medicine that leads to certification by the College of Family Physicians of Canada or its equivalent in other countries around the world. (Eligibility requires completion of a recognized residency program or five years in family practice).  Applicant must be currently practicing Family Medicine in the country in which they reside. All applicants must be fluent in spoken and written English. Applicants whose first language is not English must provide proof of English proficiency.

PhD Program:

Established in 2008, the main goal of the PhD is to produce family physicians who will be competitive family medicine researchers at the highest levels of grantsmenship internationally. The discipline of family medicine from a research perspective is at a critical juncture and in order to ensure the future of family medicine research PhD trained family physicians are fundamental. This program combines on-site (two weeks, once yearly) with distance education via the Internet. The course of study is designed to fit the needs of the individual student and utilizes the broad range of academic and research expertise of the faculty. The program is offered as both a part-time and a full-time program.

Admission Requirements:

Admission to the program requires a master’s degree (thesis based) with an overall average of B+. In addition the applicant must hold a medical degree and certification by the College of Family Physicians of Canada or its equivalent in other countries. Applicants must be currently practicing Family Medicine in the country in which they reside.  All applicants must be fluent in spoken and written English. Applicants whose first language is not English must provide proof of English proficiency.
